Mexico GP Qualifying: Performing under pressure

Sending a signal

Lando Norris takes pole position in Mexico City, being the fastest in all sectors with a 1.15.586. Performing when pressure is at its peak, and making it count when the title race is nearing the end. This pole position must taste a little sweeter than usual, as teammate Piastri only managed 8th, with Max Verstappen at 5th. Verstappen, who felt there was more potential in the car, will be having a busy sunday. Having to overtake 3 drivers in front of him before reaching Lando Norris.

Both Ferrari’s with a very solid qualifying, Charles Leclerc leading the pair finishing 2nd, with Lewis Hamilton only a tenth behind in 3th. It will be interesting to see if they will be able to carry their steady pace into the race, as the free practice sessions were mixed, having really strong one lap pace while sometimes struggling in the long runs.

George Russell and Kimi Antonelli will be starting 4th and 6th. Russell with an overall solid session, while his teammate barely made it into Q2. Antonelli only managed the 15th fastest lap time in Q1, but with luck on his side no other driver sharpened their lap time, letting him continue his qualifying.

A small surprise in Q1 as Alex Albon was struggling with the car not making it thru Q1 in 17th. Happy faces on the other side of the garage as Carlos Sainz finishes best of the rest in 7th, a very solid effort by the Williams team that has been growing stronger every race.

Yuki Tsunoda missed out on Q3 by only a couple hundredths of a second. Someone who didn't mind ending his qualifying in Q2 was Fernando Alonso, The Spaniard who had been wrestling with the car throughout practice has finally found some pace in his AMR25.

Let's just say it will be an interesting first corner, with the most important question, who will be heading first into turn one? Will it be Lando, just to drive off in the distance? Verstappen with a miracle start? Or will it be one of the drivers that hasn't got anything to lose anyway?

We will see tomorrow!
