8hrs of Bahrain FP2:
A BMW disqualification

Not So Fast

Nightfalls over the Bahrain international circuit, and with temperatures dropping teams got the chance to test their race setups ahead of Saturday. It was the #20 WRT BMW who set the fastest lap of the session setting a 1.48.780, sadly the joy was short lived as the #20 got disqualified after failing to slow down for a double yellow. So with the BMW disqualified it was the #009 Aston Martin Valkyrie, topping the session with a 1.49.042 set by Marco Sørensen. The #009 team continued its strong form after being in a class of their own in free practice 1.

Toyota showed a promising pace for the final race of the year. With the #7 finishing 3th and the #8 making it to 6th. Its still early on but it looks promising especially the consistency of the #7 having driven 45 laps, the most of the entire grid and almost all within a couple of hundredths. The #6 Porsche finished 4th, having done some solid laps, but still having some work to do managing the extra weight they have gained as the FIA has blessed the Porsche hypercars with an “unlucky” BoP at best.

Ferrari’s quiet hunt

With all Ferrari hypercars in the contention for the drivers, constructors and privateers championship they keep their aces up their sleeves. With the best Ferrari, the #51 driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi, only making 5th fastest but showing a mighty race pace. With all 3 cars having driven at least 40 laps this session it really shows that they tried to make the most of the second practice session.

In LMGT3 it was the Akkodis Lexus with the fastest time set by Finn Gehrsitz. Closely followed by the #85 Iron Dames Porsche, overall a solid session with still a bit of fine tuning to do to keep this pace consistent over the long runs. Finishing of the top 3 we have the #33 Corvette.

This session gave a really good insight into what the race might bring as these conditions were very similar to what we will see in the race. We hope to see you back tomorrow for Fp3 and Qualifying.
