Fuji Preview:

After weeks of anticipation we finally returned to Japan for the 6 hours of Fuji, all eyes were on the Hypercar class with all the championship fights still ongoing. The early Friday session was held under cool, overcast skies, with Mount Fuji’s peak just barely visible in the distance  making for some incredible scenery. Teams approached FP1 cautiously. Fuji’s combination of long straights and tight technical sections demands a fine balance between top speed and traction. Tire management, especially with the resurfaced tarmac, was already a talking point even before the green light. And not to forget Toyota trying to finally take their spotlight at home, with a difficult season so far.

Free practice 1: a bit of a surprise

The French lead the way with both Peugeots taking p1 and p2, closely followed by both Aston Martin Valkyries, which to say the least makes for an interesting result. With all 4 cars within 6 tenths of each other, although it only being FP1, it promises to be a close fight with hopefully some surprises. Toyota only managing 6th right behind the #5 Porsche Penske, still has some work to do for tomorrow to be sure of making it into HyperPole. Ferrari having a difficult season with the fastest of the prancing horses the #83 only finishing 9th with the #51 & #50 finishing 10th and 13th.

LMGT3

Lexus immediately took the top spot right out of the gate in the fight for the LMGT3 title. The TF Sport Corvette following close only being 0.033 of a second behind.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing what FP2 will have in store and if it will tell us more for the HyperPole sessions of tomorrow.
